Visualizing Statistical Numbness of
Terror incidents in 2016
At times, one questions the coverage of news in different places. The reader is generally affected by a preconceived image and familiarity of a country as well as by their connection to the issue at stake.
Statistical Numbness plays a role in what the news media covers as it brings us information we pay attention to. It is undeniable that our perceptions are a blend of reason and subjective emotions. The chances of an empathy gap increase as news becomes dehumanized.

News media coverage of terror incidents
In 2015, Beirut and Paris experienced terror incidents only one day apart. As we looked back at the amount of media coverage the events received through tweets, we noticed a huge empathy gap. With our documentation focusing on bombing incidents, our main objective is to highlight that all lives matter where terror incidents arise. Some of the questions we then raised came about the number of terror incidents, scale of the events, and the prioritization of their reportage.
